Frequently Asked Questions
How are appointments set up?
Hours are by appointment only. Please use the Contact Form to provide all contact information for appointment scheduling. I will receive your information via e-mail and will reach out to you to schedule a consultation/fitting.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Please bring anything that is to be worn with the dress; this includes undergarments like a bra, slip, etc. Also remember to bring your shoes.
Keep in mind that if you plan to wear 4-inch heels for the ceremony and then switch to flats or flip-flop type shoes for the reception, this will create some hem length challenges. The dress will be perfect for the ceremony but will be dragging at the reception, or too short at the ceremony but will be perfect for the reception. I have found that it is better to have the dress be slightly shorter for the ceremony and drag a little less at the reception, but this is something to discuss at your appointment.
Weight loss plans…..or pregnancy!
Many brides plan to lose weight prior to the big day. That is commendable, but sometimes the stress of the big day thwarts the best laid plans. Situations can also change and a pregnancy occurs before the big day. It is always easier to take a dress in. However, a wedding gown can usually only be let out a maximum of 3 inches, and some gowns don’t give that much leeway. I strive to have your dress perfect for one of the biggest days of your life; we can work together to find that perfect fit! If a pregnancy exists, please indicate that on the contact form and include the date of delivery in relation to the wedding date. This will help with scheduling the appointment.
How long/how much experience do you have with bridal and special occasion dress alterations?
I have been sewing for over 25 years. I started working with costume alterations while in high school and continued that work after my children were born. I costumed full-scale musicals at Sacred Heart-Griffin for 12 years; I have also costumed musicals at the Springfield Muni Opera and continue to work backstage doing alterations for rental costumes. I also have bridal alterations experience, which I obtained while working at a local bridal salon for 2 years. Over the past 15-20 years, I have done bridal alterations ‘on the side’, relying only on word of mouth advertising. I pride myself on quality work and love helping my customers to find the perfect fit of their garment. I believe that a well-fitting dress helps a woman feel more confident in her appearance, especially on a special occasion.
